WIP: Blue City.

My tablets been very finicky lately, so I don't know if I'll get to finish this any time soon, But here's another effort towards background practice.

City Park

Been trying to do some back grounds lately, and play around with lighting. I feel the dusk and night are a bit too similar, but I liked the dusk too much  not to post it. Or maybe I just really like purple right now.

 Awhile ago, mid-January or there abouts, I decided I'd had enough of not drawing. So I dragged my friend to a life drawing session at this place in Mountain View

Here is some of the stuff I've done there.

Hair Comb

This is it. If only to prove my continued existence to the miniscule bit of internet that is this blog, I'm going to challenge myself to weekly posts.

I'll start with a bit of back log...

This was my wire project from the intro to art jewelry class I took last spring, it involved a bit of forging and a lot of soldering. Which I wasn't very good at.. I kept re-melting bits on ascendent.

It's made out of nickel-silver cause I'm poor, and because as far as I can tell the metal doesn't bother me.

It's about 8 inches long, and designed to stick off the head a bit, which could make it a bit of an eye problem when worn by someone short. Something I failed to think about when making it.

 Done this past summer for a one day show case at my part time job. Painted cut paper and illustration board.

ADVENTURE!

It was warm and sunny this past weekend, so I decided to go on an adventure with my friend Link.

 

 

 

THESIS!

The final semester is over, and I'm back home in California. To celebrate, I'm posting a link to my finished thesis video. 

Ghoulies

For my work study I help out at the Black Cherry Puppet Theater. They're currently very busy preparing a new show for later this month, and I get to work on whatever project is happening at the time. Recently, it's been making background character puppets.

These guys are only going to be on stage for a few minuets, but they were sure fun to make! I only did the sculpting for the heads though, not the paint job or the costuming.

A Tea Set for Dr. Suess

For our ceramics final we were to make a five piece set for a specific person, real or fictional.

Last semester I kind of stopped posting things, so now I'm playing catch up.
This is some of my stuff from the wheel-thrown class.

Coffee?

Needed to draw a bit. So I did.






I can't figure out if I like it better with the color or not though...
I think it looks a bit like a coffee label.

Cuff Bracelet

My first project for my Jewelry class: a bronze cuff bracelet.
We were to make a piece by piercing and sawing, with one side brought to a high polish, and one with an intentional scratch surface.

Snow in Baltimore

It snowed here in Baltimore this weekend, not a whole lot, but enough for it to look quite pretty.
This photo was taken at 1:30 am, in what is usually a pretty dark part of the night, but some combination of light reflecting off snow and clouds made it light as day.

These were taken the following morning.

Procrastination

So yes, I still exist.

Under the Camera

The other class I'm taking this semester is intro to stop motion.
So far we've been exploring under the camera techniques using this nifty program called dragon stop-motion (although they've just released a new version called dragonframe).

The first individual project we did was to animate cut paper puppets.

I tried out green screening, but I was using construction paper for the green and having some problems maintaining the image quality in final cut, so the editing is a bit lackluster at parts.

The next was a short based on some old Sesame Street animations. We were to choose one of a variety of methods and do a 15 second short that ended up as an animal

I used black sand, and pulled armadillo out of the hat, so. It's an Armadillo!

The most recent one we did was a collage animation. I found it to be very similar to the paper animation, and really they are sort of interchangeable.

People seems to like the sounds on this one.

In which I share some fun things I find on the internet

So basically, the internet if full of awesome and occasionally, you can find some of it. Here's a few things I found recently while 'researching'....most of them are unrelated.

MAD architects are a group of imaginative people bringing the fantastic into reality. I don't actually know how many projects they've completed, but I want to go to them. All of them.

And then there are fun science-y nature things...like these clouds. So pretty!

For people more interested in things of a smaller scale, this book looks frigg'n awesome.
It's basically a bunch of people passing around a journal to friends and friends of friends and collecting entries. Only it's a sketchbook as opposed to a journal, and the friends are illustrators living and working all around the world.

And then, because I like birds, have some pretty pictures.

Two Half-Sized Figures and a Head

MORE CLAY! whoo! These are, rather obviously, form my figure sculpting class, which I wont have this Monday because we've got fall break (yay! extra sleep time :D)
Anyway, yeah.. here they are.






I think I'm getting better at faces, slowly but yesh. I seem to need more time for the eyes. After our break, I think we'll be doing two week pieces, so maybe then I'll get a front view I'm happy with.
